F O X , F X C A N A D A , F X Spying Young Q How has Elizabeth's relationship with her daughter changed in the wake of the bombshell that the KGB wants Paige brought into the fold? A I don't look at it like I'm recruiting this teenager to do what I do and to turn tricks with strangers in a hotel room. For me, I have to go to a human level, and I really believe and I think Elizabeth would really believe that you should know who you are. And I feel like she's this mother who's watching a daughter being indoctrinated by someone [at her church group], and it's someone that is so polar opposite to what [Elizabeth] believes to be true and right and important. And if she's going to be indoctrinated by someone, it's going to be me. It's not going to be some kid with a guitar singing about Jesus. Like, she wants it to be important and, you know, about socialism and people who matter, and I think it does come out of great love for her daughter and wanting her to be a substantial human being and, even more base than that, wanting her to know who she is. I think, how do you navigate the world if you don't know who you are? And I think it starts there. Q You seem to have a knack for scenes where your character is playing another character. Is that tough? A It's so fun, and it's such a great conceit in a show because some of the storylines that [our writers] have written have been about revealing things about Philip [Matthew Rhys] and Elizabeth in those moments of disguise with the stranger that they couldn't reveal to someone else. And that work is really fun. It's really fun to be able to, say, be vulnerable or be scared in a way that you wouldn't normally as this character and be OK with that person because they'll never see them again and you're being someone else. It's a really fun thing to do. It's a crazy, weird job. Things get more interesting as they go along. Keri Russell on Elizabeth's desire to turn her daughter into a KGB spook TV WEEK 11 Time's Up!
