Wednesday Tuesday Friday Thursday TV WEEK 63 ON TV This week's TOP FILMS Being There 7 p.m., TCM Chance (Peter Sellers) is a simple-minded gardener who has spent his entire life in the employ of an elderly man. When his boss passes away, Chance is thrust into the real world, with his only knowledge being what he's seen on TV — turning him into an unlikely philosopher for the rest of humanity. Arthur 5 p.m., TCM Pampered man-child Arthur (Dudley Moore) must learn to love the woman his family wants him to marry or risk giving up the millions of dollars that fund his luxurious (and thoroughly extravagant) lifestyle. Which suits Arthur just fine . . . until he falls in love with someone else (Liza Minnelli). The Verdict 7 p.m., TCM This 1982 gem stars Paul Newman as a bottom-feeding attorney whose alcoholism has all but destroyed his career. Seeing a chance for a big payout, he takes on a medical malpractice case; but despite being offered a healthy amount of money to settle out of court, he unexpectedly finds himself crusading for justice. Transformers 6 p.m. & 10 p.m., Space The most bombastic blockbuster franchise in cinematic history started here, as these Hasbro toys-turned- cartoon got the Michael Bay treatment, leading to an overblown action film about a teen (Shia LaBeouf) who uncovers a relic that reignites the eons-old war between feuding robot armies. Begin Again 8 p.m., MC1; 11:20 p.m., MC3 A down-on-his-luck L.A. record exec (Mark Ruffalo) discovers an unknown British singer- songwriter (Keira Knightley) at the end of her emotional rope and becomes determined to renew both their spirits and their bank accounts in this sweet dramedy from Irish filmmaker John Carney (Once). Brick Mansions 8:30 p.m., MC1; 11:35 p.m., MC2 In this action-packed remake of 2004 French flick District 13, Paul Walker (in his last completed film) and David Belle (one of the creators of building-hopping sport Parkour) play a cop and an ingenious tough guy who are brought together to bring down a ruthless drug lord (RZA). Crooked Arrows 8 p.m. & Midnight, APTN This drama takes on the largely overlooked sport of lacrosse, centring on a ragtag team of First Nations boys who learn the vast historical significance of lacrosse from their coach (Superman Returns star Brandon Routh) while training to beat a preppie team from Upstate New York. Michael Clayton 8 p.m., EA2 George Clooney stars in this gripping legal thriller as a lawyer (well, more like a legal fixer) plagued by his share of demons who reluctantly gets mixed up in a huge and complex class-action lawsuit when one of his firm's partners (Tom Wilkinson) has a nervous breakdown in the middle of the case.
