28 >> OUR HOUSE FALL 2017 DOMINION LENDING CENTRES (2) ET CANADA An engineer by training, "math nerd" by disposition and shrewd steward of her family's finances, ET Canada personality Sangita Patel came naturally to the job of hosting the reality show Home to Win. But for her money, the perfect place is a serene, leafy patch of suburban Mississauga By JEREMY DEUTSCH Sangita Patel was living in Oakville, Ont., when she and her husband decided to make a move. Their first home was purchased brand new, and after five years the couple paid off the mortgage. But there was a lot of construction going on in the area. They felt it was time to leave. The ET Canada reporter and host of HGTV's Home to Win and her husband happened to be driving around one night in the Toronto suburb of Mississauga when they stumbled across a house then under construction. It was in a cul de sac, nestled on the edge of a forested area formerly held by the University of Toronto- Mississauga. It was love at first sight. "It's our dream home," Patel says. "We were able to pick everything inside the house within a month and they had the walls up already at that point. Nothing could be built behind, so we back onto a ravine, and we kept our house very neutral and calm. It's like you're at a cottage getaway. We have deer running in the backyard, coyotes, and great paths running through the backyard. It's pretty amazing." With a hectic schedule that involves travelling the world to interview the biggest stars in the entertainment universe, Patel views her home as an oasis to get away and be with family. Our House magazine caught up with the busy mom and TV personality to talk about her home, her breakout show Home to Win, and rubbing shoulders with celebrities. OUR HOUSE: How would you describe your home? PATEL: It's serene. It's simple. It's big. We kept the colours very neutral. We have the aqua colours. We wanted to have that spa-like, relaxing feel. We wanted to have that cottage feel as well. We love it. The kids' rooms are the first rooms we did. We HOME SMARTS
