With the Holiday season coming to an end, the New Year is the perfect opportunity to get the entire family reorganized. And in winter, that means making space for all the gifts, clothes and equipment that can build up during the busy time of year. Wolf Nickel, the founder and president of STOR-X Organizing Systems, has a few sure-fire tips to get ready for 2018. For Nickel, there are a couple places specifically to focus on – the bedroom and the mudroom. The Mudroom This room has dierent names depending on where you live, but for Nickel it's the place where your family enters and leaves the home. And as anyone with a busy family knows, this area can quickly become a disaster. "People don't often think of it, they don't think there can be anything done there, it's just like a problem," he said. But there a few easy things you can do to make that space more functional. Nickel said the simplest idea is to have a place where you can store shoes, boots, skates and cleats. The key is to keep them o the floor. He recommends a bench with storage or a cubby for the kids to sit and take o their shoes and place them in afterward. Above the bench, install some hooks so they can hang their coats and knapsacks. You can also use baskets instead of drawers if they want to see what's inside. The Bedroom "For the most part, I find kids just need more shelving," Nickel said, noting most kids' closets are missing shelving space. He also recommends creating more space by adding a second hanging bar. It's an inexpensive way of creating more space. While most parents nowadays want their kid's time in front of a computer out in the open, it's still a good idea to make room for a small desk with space for supplies and a lamp for studying. It doesn't have to be fancy, and in some cases it can be built into a nook or area in the bedroom. promoted content Clutter KICK the
