K N O W L E D G E , P B S Hot Docs INDEPENDENT LENS Monday, 10 p.m., KCTS American Denial chronicles the history of Nobel Prize-winning sociologist Gunnar Myrdal's controversial 1944 investigation into race relations in the U.S. and how it still resonates in modern times. 22 TV WEEK Meeting the Beatles L ike millions of other music fans who grew up during the 1960s, filmmaker Seth Swirsky idolized The Beatles. During his travels, whenever he encountered someone who had themselves met one of the Fab Four, he was eager to hear about it, in detail. Eventually he decided to document his encounters and set about getting as many of these people's stories on video in order to discover exactly what it was that made brushes with Beatledom so magical. Eight years and more than 100 individuals later, he assembled those interviews in this entertaining film that includes reminiscences from famous actors like Sir Ben Kingsley (who remembers doing a play while John Lennon and George Harrison were in attendance) and Henry Winkler (who literally ran into Paul McCartney on the streets of New York) as well as musicians like Brian Wilson (who recalls being honoured with a private performance of "She's Leaving Home" by McCartney himself) and Art Garfunkel (who tells the story of a conversation in Lennon's Dakota apartment about possibly collaborating with Paul Simon). As you settle into this film, you begin to believe that you're the only person who doesn't have a Beatle story to share, but buck up — there's always a chance you could bump into Paul or Ringo at the checkout line! BEATLES STORIES Sunday, 10:15 p.m., Super Channel 4 Somewhere out in the Mojave Desert, near the border of California and Nevada, lies Death Valley — a small stretch of land which boasts the record for being the lowest, driest and hottest area in North America. But despite these hardships, more than 1,000 types of plant life thrive here, as you will see in this epic documentary. LIFE IN DEATH VALLEY DEATH VALLEY Sunday, 7 p.m., Knowledge Face to Race
