TV WEEK 23 2 K N O W L E D G E , P B S W hile air travel is no doubt the speedier means of conveyance, you simply can't beat a good old-fashioned train ride when it comes to atmosphere; the sounds, smells and pure sense of romantic adventure are intoxicating. In this three-part docu-series from the U.K., historian Dan Cruickshank looks at the history of trains in Britain and their impact on history. In the first episode, "War Heroes," he examines the importance of the rail during the First and Second World Wars in moving soldiers, supplies and evacuees to and from the front lines, even amidst the bloodiest of battles with Germany. GREAT RAILWAY ADVENTURES Monday, 8 p.m., Knowledge NATURE Wednesday, 5 p.m. & 10:30 p.m., WTVS; 8 p.m., KCTS The Last Orangutan Eden centres on a region in the jungles of Northern Sumatra that has recently been declared a World Heritage Site. It is here, in a peat swamp forest known as Suaq Balimbing, where the dwindling population of wild orangutans struggles to survive in a habitat quickly disappearing due to deforestation. Ecologist Chris Morgan works alongside a team of researchers to better understand the distinct culture of these creatures, while also spotlighting the efforts of scientists to rehabilitate young orphan orangutans so that they can be returned to the wild. MONKEY BUSINESS Lost & Crowned LOST KINGDOMS OF CENTRAL AMERICA Thursday, 8 p.m., Knowledge In this four-part documentary series, historian Dr. Jago Cooper travels deep into the jungles of Costa Rica, Mexico, the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico on a quest to learn more about the legends, cultures and traditions of several long-lost civilizations. KILLING BIGFOOT Wednesday, 1 p.m., 6 p.m. & 9 p.m., OLN The Gulf Coast Bigfoot Research Organization is made up of engineers, ex-cops, corporate execs and others who head out into the Louisiana woods with one goal in mind: kill a Bigfoot to prove the existence of the species.
